What Does Cruelty Free Mean In Cosmetics?

The cosmetics industry, just like any other industry, plays host to a variety of different product, styles and business practices. But with so many different cosmetic products on the market to choose from, it can sometimes be difficult to keep track of all of the different production standards and ethical practices.

Since day one, The Quick Flick has been 100% cruelty free and it is a value that continues to play an important role in everything we do here, from product development and manufacturing to packaging and even our marketing campaigns. We are extremely proud to be cruelty free and are on a mission to help inspire our customers and consumers to join us.

Now, you might be asking yourself, what exactly does ‘cruelty free’ mean in cosmetics? Well, here’s the answer!

Cruelty free in the beauty industry refers to products (goods or services) that have not been tested on animals at any stage of development or production. Not to be confused with vegan cosmetics, which are products free of animal-derived ingredients. Vegan and cruelty-free production choices are two different things and a product can be one or the other, or both!

So how can you tell if a product is cruelty-free?

Well, to begin with, it’s likely to be listed on the product packaging, company website and across the brand’s social media channels.

To be certain, you can also use the Cruelty Free PETA Beauty Without Bunnies Database. Give The Quick Flick a search! There are also a bunch of apps available to assist you in becoming a more conscientious consumer. These include Think Dirty, Skin Deep and Bunny Free.

Here at The Quick Flick, we have made it our mission to do good by the environment and by our team, company and customers, in creating products that bring no harm to you, your environment and all that it hosts. All our products are cruelty-free, vegan and PETA approved – your left and right eyeliner wings matching is not the only Quick Flick guarantee we deliver.

And whilst 2020 has been particularly chaotic, we have seen some positive change emerge from it too. This has included the implementation of an Australia-wide ban on the use of data provided from cosmetic animal testing as evidence of products meeting Australian safety standards. This legislation effectively prevents Australian made or imported cosmetics using results obtained from animal testing and instead pushes for the use of different sources of data.

Still need convincing to switch to cruelty-free?  Here’s one more reason.

Here at The Quick Flick HQ we believe that each and every single one of us has a responsibility to shop ethically and inform ourselves on what actually goes into our favourites and how they are made. Making the switch to cruelty free is a huge step in the right direction, but the industry still has a long way to go.

By choosing to go with a cruelty free product you are not only doing good by yourself, but also doing good by the environment. As a company, we are committed to constantly working to make more conscious, informed choices and encourage each of you to do the same.
